Field Day 2014

Field Day 2014 was the third Field day for the WCC, and the third year as a Class 1A station in the Santa Barbara section under our club call sign K6WCC. Once again, the Forest Service gave us permission to operate on a magnificent hill top in the Los Padres National Forest. The vast majority of contacts were made on the 20m band. It was the debut event for our new tower trailer, which was pushed into service despite some major mechanical issues. The extending winch had to be replaced on site, among other things, but as is the spirit of Field Day, we made it work with what we had on hand.

The event was organized by members Jacob N6HPA and Erik N8MJK, but was also visited by our esteemed club president, Adam KJ6TAH who made his first two HF contacts on Sunday morning along with visitor Justin KK6KUR. Of course, the event would’ve been much less jovial without the tireless support from member Marie KJ6IRG who coordinated food and logistics.

Preliminary logging shows 809 contacts made in 22.5 hours of operating.
